FREE TAX PREP AVAILABLE

Fantasy BaseballWe all know that economic self-sufficiency and financial stability are key to the success of families, and ultimately the strength of our community. United Way focuses on promoting financial stability to help individuals and families have access to opportunities that can help them build savings and gain more financial assets for long-term stability.

United Way is partnering with several area nonprofits, including Berks Community Action Program, Berks Encore, Boyertown Area Multi-Services, Catholic Charities, Centro Hispano and Friend, Inc. Community Services, to help low to moderate income families become financially stronger.

We are pleased to share information about upcoming efforts and events that may be of interest and assistance to your co-workers and others:

To schedule an appointment, contact the site most convenient.  A listing of the sites is available by downloading the flyer from our website.

Dashing through the Aisles

shopping spreeDavid Schwab started the Shurfine Shopping Spree with a plan and ended it with more than $1,375 worth of groceries.

"We did a walk-through of the store the other day, and I wanted to make sure I remembered everywhere I need to go, so I made a cheat sheet," Schwab joked as he pointed to the piece of paper tucked into his watch band.

During his three-minute dash through the Sinking Spring store, Schwab filled several carts with lobster tails, meats, Dunkin' Donuts coffee and other items.

Schwab won the 2009 Shurfine Shopping Spree by contributing to the United Campaign through his employer, Teleflex Medical, Inc.

This is the ninth year that Associated Wholesalers, Inc./Shurfine Markets has donated a shopping spree to the United Way campaign.

Meals on Wheels Needs Your Help
Please consider donating a little time to help deliver Meals on Wheels in partnership with BerksEncore.  This organization is in dire need of volunteers to help with deliveries in Reading, Muhlenburg, Temple, and Laureldale areas.   During these cold winter months, a warm meal and nice smile go a long way to ease the burden of being house-bound.

Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Donna Boyajian at 610-374-3195 x220.

Volunteer Opportunities
Beat the winter blues by brightening the day of a local organization in need of volunteer help.

Volunteer opportunities for every interest and time commitment are available throughout Berks County.  Visit Volunteer Solutions to find an opportunity that's right for you.
